Here's a way you can support the poor families around UCB. It's an annual bike ride to Lake Tahoe that is done by some UCBPD officers for pledged money. The money is used to help local families who need help at the holidays. Especially in this current recession, when food banks are finding greater demand and less stocks of food -- this is a great thing to do. Please -- reach in your pockets and pledge as much as you can.

Greetings Friends & Colleagues,
Retired UCPD Sergeant Mike Freeman, Sergeant David Roby and I will once
again be participating as UCPD’s representatives in this year’s annual
Turkey Ride, September 3, 4 & 5. The Turkey Ride is an event sponsored by
the Berkeley Boosters Association to raise money to provide holiday
dinners to underprivileged families in our community. Every year a group
of police officers ride 216 miles from Berkeley to South Lake Tahoe over
the course of 2½ days. 2008 marks the 24th anniversary of this important
event.
You can help by sponsoring a rider with a tax-deductible donation! If you
pledge 5 cents a mile, that’s only $10.80 (less than three gallons of
gas). Of course, if you would like to pledge more, that would be
fantastic. You can sponsor any (or all) of the UCPD riders.
Pay no money now merely e-mail to adan@berkeley.edu with your pledge. The week
after we finish the ride, I will let you know that we made it, and at that
time I’ll ask you to write a check to the Berkeley Boosters Association
a tax-deductible donation. You can give the check to either of the UCPD
riders, and we will present all of the pledges from UCPD together.
